Transcriptions for Soloing
One of the most valuable tools to get better at improvising is to learn from the masters. Listening and analyzing those who have come before us, helps us to learn the tradition of jazz organically, and start to learn the sound, ideas, and musical vocabulary ("licks") that make the music what it is.
On this page you'll find a selection of solos from jazz trumpet players that I have transcribed (written out by ear), and collected over the years. This is a great way to get some cool ideas that we can use as a starting point for our own playing, plus they're just fun to play.
Choose an artist below, listen to the accompanying recording, and practise it slowly. When you're comfortable try and play along at full speed!
With some practice you'll be amazed at how cool you can sound!
