So Who Is Dave Bamford?
Who I am as a person is a big question which requires an even bigger answer. So here's a little bit of background information about myself, and what I bring to a career in music education. A more detailed look on my teaching views can be found by clicking the Philosophy of Teaching tab located in the main menu.
I was actually born and raised in Nanaimo, and attended Dover Bay Secondary before completing my Bachelor's Degrees in both Music and Education at Vancouver Island University. My schooling has allowed me to work with many incredible educators, who have instilled in me a passion for learning and teaching which is still growing! Additionally, working throughout Vancouver Island as a professional musician has given me a wealth of experience and knowledge in a variety of settings, which has supplemented my formal training in a big way.
I grew up in a very musical household, as throughout my childhood my father worked as a music teacher at the elementary level. This was something he loved dearly, and along with my three brothers, I was encouraged to pursue my musical passions as much as possible, both at home and in the community. So while I started off singing in school choirs and around the house, I soon moved on to instrumental music through community band, and began playing trumpet at age 11. I've stuck with the instrument ever since, and have had the privilege of studying under respected trumpet players and teachers such as Norm Porter, Michael Irving, Kim Garland, Greg Bush, and Brad Turner.

Besides music, I am also an avid runner, and love exploring the outdoors and all the west coast has to offer. Something I feel very passionately about is traveling the world, and learning and exploring our collective history. I've backpacked independently to Eastern Canada and throughout Western Europe, and have learned a lot about myself and a little about the world we live in. Feel free to pick my brain about music or anything else that interests you. I'd be happy to listen!
