How to Practise our Music
Regardless of our age, as musicians we sometimes get stuck in 'ruts' while practising where it feels like we're not improving, or where we get overwhelmed by the complexity of the music we're trying to learn.
In these instances it's important to have a system in place to fall back on, that we can use to break these challenges into smaller, more manageable steps. The graphic below was designed by retired band teacher Kevin Hamlin to help his students with their reading.
Taking a small section of music, try to use this ladder approach to tackle it step by step, working your way to the top! The more you use this method the faster you will become.
