The Science Corner

Picture
So right now you might be thinking, why is there science on our music site? What's up with that!? Well the truth is, that a lot of what we do in our Band classes is directly related to science and scientific discoveries, even if we don't think about it. This section is designed to be a resource for you, where we'll break down a few aspects of the science behind sound. By the end of this we'll be able to:

  •  Classify the different instruments we use in the band room, and describe how things like  size, shape, and material can affect the way they sound.
  • Describe what a sound wave looks like, and the different ways we measure, record, and classify them.
  • Explain how the human ear works, and the path sound takes before eventually reaching the brain
  • Look at the effects exposure to loud noises can have on our ears, and see how we can protect our hearing from permanent damage.
